The granary is the house of Dewi Sri the rice goddess.

For water most houses have a well.

Below the granary is a large platform, which can be used for an extension for the kitchen and guest room.

The ceremonial pavilion is placed in the east. It has one or two platform beds and the base is often tiered, providing seats for the extended family. This is the most important pavilion since this is the area where rites of passage and death rituals occur. The Hindu-Balinese existence is a continuous cycle of life and death until one reaches moska. This is when the soul becomes one with the macrocosmos. The rituals the Balinese perform are to ensure that the individual progresses to moska. One of these rituals is tooth filing, done when a child reaches puberty. It is a ceremony that is done to overcome the elements of man’s bestiality; the top six teeth are filed even. Posted by Picasa
